About Us

Dognosis is a deep-tech health startup building next-gen biosensing systems - starting with dogs. Our flagship product, BreatheEasy, uses scent-detection hardware and real-time analytics to identify disease biomarkers non-invasively. We work at the intersection of biology, hardware, and software to turn breakthrough science into practical diagnostics. Backed by early clinical collaborations, we're a fast-moving team building the future of health tech.

Job Description

At Dognosis, we are pioneering the use of canine olfaction in early cancer detection, integrating neuroscience and artificial intelligence to develop the world’s most advanced scent-based diagnostic tools. We are seeking a highly skilled Canine Detection Trainer to join our K9 team in Nelamangala, Bangalore. This role involves working at the intersection of science and animal training, contributing to a cutting-edge program aimed at improving lives through early disease detection.

In this role, you’ll be responsible for the comprehensive training and management of detection dogs in a clinical research setting. Your tasks will include designing and executing olfactory training protocols, refining scent discrimination capabilities, and conditioning dogs to perform with precision in experimental environments. You will also work closely with researchers to uphold training standards and minimize variables, manage dog rotation and enrichment schedules, and maintain scent libraries critical for testing. Additionally, you’ll help collect and annotate data during double-blind sniff tests, ensuring high experimental rigor and consistency across trials.

Requirements

We’re looking for candidates with at least 3 years of proven experience training detection dogs, whether in narcotics, explosives, medical scent work, or similar fields. A solid foundation in operant conditioning, scent imprinting, and reinforcement strategies is essential. You should be familiar with tools such as clickers, scent wheels, and discrimination protocols. Prior experience working in high-discipline environments, such as military, police K9 units, or security operations, is strongly preferred, as the role demands structure, consistency, and a deep understanding of canine behaviour under pressure.

Comfort working around clinical or biological materials is necessary (biohazard handling training will be provided). You’ll need to thrive in a multi-disciplinary environment, collaborating with scientists, engineers, and fellow trainers to achieve complex goals. High emotional intelligence is key — both in your interactions with dogs and human team members. Strong observational skills, patience, and a data-driven mindset are crucial. Candidates with experience in special forces K9 work, training for novel scent targets like cancer or agricultural pests, or experience in double-blind detection setups will be given significant preference.
