Role description:

As a Robotics Software Engineer at Hullbot, you’ll work on technology that is making a global impact. The size of the problem is massive, with the drag created from biofouling accounting for up to 1% of the world’s GHG emissions. Our fleet of robots is addressing this problem every day, with over 3 million kgCO2 already saved, and your work on our robots and supporting systems will rapidly accelerate this impact. If you're passionate about using your experience in robotics to solve big problems in the world, this role is for you.

You will work with our R&D engineers to bring novel technology to our robots, developing innovative computer vision, localization and navigation functions. You will integrate new processors and sensors, improving efficiency and accuracy in a tightly integrated system. Your knowledge of traditional robotics techniques paired with fast-developing AI models will accelerate our development towards a truly autonomous service.

What we like about you:

  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Bachelor level or higher qualification in Computer Science, Mechatronic Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Engineering or demonstrated equivalent
  • Experience deploying algorithms and models on robots in key areas: control systems, localization, navigation and behaviour
  • Experience integrating sensor suites on embedded systems
  • Knowledge and experience using key programming languages and frameworks (C++, python, ROS2)
  • Experience with professional software engineering best practices including code review, source control, CI/CD, test framework development and operations
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Where you could also help:

  • You have designed robotics software architectures, with a focus on autonomy
  • Experience with DevSecOps workflows and automation that lift team performance
  • Demonstrated experience with large data, unstructured systems, ML/AI, robotics, ROS
  • Experience in building and managing AWS, docker, kubernetes, opensearch/splunk components
  • Startup experience & enthusiastic mindset
